Update for Summer 2017
This summer we will not be offering a farm camp program. Since we first started Farm Camp nine years ago our farm has grown, and for the past four years Maura has been working off the farm in addition to carrying her on-farm responsibilities. Feeling stretched a little thin, coupled with some family demands this summer, we’ve decided to take a break. Farm Camp days have been among the summer highlights over the years. We believe we’ve provided kids with great experiences and would not feel comfortable offering a program below our expectations. Thank you for your understanding. We are keeping the window open for 2018 and beyond!
Farm Camp at Crystal Spring Farm
We inspire kids to care for farms, the earth, good eating and good times.
We welcome children ages 5-16 to join us on our family-run organic farm. Campers will experience the connections between growing and eating healthy foods and taking care of our bodies and our land.
After a morning welcome circle, we begin each day with animal chores, feeding and watering our lambs, pigs, and chickens. Over the course of the week we’ll partake in the full process of raising vegetables, herbs, and flowers – from soil preparation, direct seeding and transplanting, to watering, weeding, harvesting, washing, and of course eating! Kids will get dirty in our vegetable fields exploring how a seed turns into a head of lettuce and how many ladybugs live amongst the plants and weeds. We will taste food as fresh as can be. Each day will include rest and relaxing with stories after lunch, and we’ll mix up the afternoons with various games, cooking with fresh produce, nature-inspired art, and creative explorations!
Positions are available for 13-16 year olds to volunteer their time in exchange for experience gained with young children and farming. Those interested can volunteer for one or more weeks. To learn more about the junior counselor positions or application for 13-16 year olds please contact Maura at 729.1112 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Orientation will be held in June, date TBD.
